Anthem August Update

On July 31st, Anthem was hit with a severe storm which is now known as the Anthem Flood. This storm by some reports now is stating that the area was hit with up to five inches of rain in a 40 minute span along with some micro-burst wind. This caused a lot of flooding in the wash and low lying areas, destroyed several homes, knocked down lots of landscaping plants and trees, caused damage to the high school as well as erosion and placed lots of dirt everywhere. The community responded and is helping many of those affected by this freak storm. One place to help out is at the website www.readyanthem.org, or through several local community organizations and churches. Also more information can be found at onlineatanthem.com. Thanks to all of those people who volunteered their time and efforts to help those affected, and to the many people who also gave items, money, and goods to help out as well. This storm and lots of the damage was classified as a flood, and most of us here do not carry flood insurance, so there is most likely no insurance coverage for many of those affected.
On another note, the school year will start for most of the schools in the community on Monday August 13th. The high school, Boulder Creek has an estimated 2525+ students enrolled for the first day. That is well over the anticipated 2400 expected earlier this year! Fall sports at Anthem have begun with Cross Country, Football, Cheerleading, Band, Girls Volleyball, Swimming and Diving, Girls Golf and my favorite Boys Golf. The middle school programs will start later in August with boys and girls volleyball, and cheerleading.
Once again, the wonderful staff and members of the Anthem Country Club are allowing the boys and girls golf teams to use the World Class Facilities at Ironwood and Persimmon for practice and home matches.
